I recall old  on a preemptive multitasking subject
And supper-puper speeds hardware
Threads - processes and other expenses of OS for service of the executable user code.
It will not simply abstractly be added, and brakes will be function
Relations of system calls and switching of execution contexts in OS (scheduler)
To clock periods of the user code on the processor.

In the protected mode the full possibilities of the 32-bit processor are used - immediate access to 4 Gbytes of physical address space and a multitask mode with parallel performance of several programs (processes) is provided. As a matter of fact, the multitask mode will be organized by multitasking operating system, however the microprocessor gives necessary for this mode the reliable mechanism of protection of tasks from each other by means of four-level system of privileges. also in this mode the page organization of storage raising protection level of tasks from each other and efficiency of their performance is accessible.
