Topic: Whether it is possible to set width on the neighbor?

There is such imposition:
<div> <img> <span> </span> </div>
There should be a picture in a circle below which center the die with the signature is allocated.
Working variant about the such: https://jsfiddle.net/xvwha7kc/
But in it the width parent div to which child members are adjusted is rigidly set.
And I would like, that the width was set  in the sizes img and could be arbitrary (in reasonable limits).
If from style for parent div to remove width it is expanded towards the size img.
But then I do not know how to set for internal span the same width, as img - if I do width:100 % the unit is expanded for all width of a window and expands parent div.

For example so: to remove width and to install display.

.circle-box {
position: relative;
display:inline-block;
}
