Topic: CSS sprite . Probably?

There is a sprite with a heap of images for buttons. In the same place there is an area which would be desirable  and to make a background for a miracle with a class .main
I.e. somehow it is necessary to combine background-position and background-repeat . An example: https://jsfiddle.net/f45gxde9/

The Answer . In a general view - it is impossible.
Hak . It is possible to add the image which on one of changes (X/Y) will occupy all sprite then it is possible it background-repeat on other measurement in the end of the sprite and to achieve the necessary effect.
But it... So-so the decision.
