Re: Popularity of different archivers among programmers

Hello, alexzzzz, you wrote: A> Here you will send so to somebody archive not-zip, and at it even if the appropriate archiver is, it can appear old and not support the necessary format. Time and again met: on a computer by mail comes rar, it try to open, and archive whether empty, whether beaten. The sender ask to send once again. Then it appears that the archive in a format rar5, and on the computer old winrar does not know that such happens and is not able to unpack it. A> therefore though winrar at me also is, it packs by default in zip. It appears, fresh versions 7-Zip support unpacking of archives RAR5: Why cannot 7-Zip open some RAR archives? 7-Zip 9.20 supports RAR 2/3/4 formats only and does not support RAR5 archives. But latest versions of 7-Zip supports RAR5 archives. https://www.7-zip.org/faq.html P.S. Found in the same FAQ' the link to instructions on recovery of beaten archives 7z: How to recover corrupted 7z archive

On idea, audio format HE-AAC too in due course  a market share, despite rather small scoring in comparison with MP3, AC3 and DTS (if to compare to the general size of a video file).

For me the place on a disk is not critical.

Prevalence of a zip shows that the place on a disk for the majority of users is not critical. (Personally I, by the way, generally use archives only as means of grouping of some types of a content, compression - so, a pleasant bonus.)
